tennessee traditions homecoming 2014

this past week here at UT was homecoming week, one of the busiest but most fun weeks of the year for alpha chi! the campus wide event was themed "tennessee traditions" this year, with activities and competitions ranging from a 3-on-3 basketball tournament, banner and float competition to a tower of cans competition and a cheerleading competition (appropriately named "smokey's howl"). homecoming is one of tennessee's greatest traditions, allowing different organizations across campus to come together to celebrate what makes tennessee unique. this year, the lovely ladies alpha chi omega and the handsome men of kappa sigma teamed up for the week. after many long nights spent pomping and gluing, many smokey's howl practices and countless cans brought in, alpha chi omega and kappa sigma took third place in homecoming this year! a special shoutout goes to our 2014 homecoming chair, miss carly costello, for making the week as great as it was!

big little reveal 2014

one of the most exciting things for new members (and all members really) is getting a "big." since bid day in august, our sophomore pledge class has taken their "buddies" out on outings to get to know them better, in hopes that they may become future big-little pairs. last weekend, the delta pi chapter had big little reveal. after a week of secret gifts from their bigs, the new members get dressed in themed costumes that will match their future bigs, who are hiding around the house waiting to be united with their new littles! big little reveal is fun for all pledge classes in the chapter - bigs become grand-bigs, grand-bigs become great-grand-bigs and families grow and grow. family dinners are planned and new littles are showered with all things alpha chi, with gifts ranging from t-shirts to hand-painted canvases and treats! it is always one of the most anticipated events of the semester and this year was more fun than ever!

color me alpha chi

this past sunday was our annual sisterhood retreat! in the past, we have square-danced, salsa-danced and other such things but this year, our VP of membership programming, miss ashley aycock, decided to plan something more colorful. the chapter members (both new and old) came together  for an afternoon of field games from water balloon toss to relays, all with a colorful catch involved. each girl wore a plain white shirt with our letters taped on it and throughout the games, paint was splattered and sprayed, thrown and smeared onto their white shirt. after the grand finale paint war, members removed the taped letters to reveal AXO in white on their colorful shirts. the event as a whole was a success and each member left much more colorful than when they came!

each and every member of our chapter brings a different "color" to alpha chi. add color your life with alpha chi, add color your life with sisterhood.

recruitment recap

well, recruitment 2014 is officially in the books. the recruitment team worked hard all summer and the chapter members came together and worked hard during polish week. and now, after a long week of recruitment, the delta pi chapter of alpha chi omega is excited to welcome over sixty new members into our sisterhood! pledge class 2014 is one of the largest in delta pi history and we could not be more excited!

one of the highlights from recruitment was our sisterhood video. every year we show a video during skit round to the potential new members to show a behind-the-scenes, fun, outside-of-recruitment look at the delta pi chapter. members came together during the summer to film it all over campus and sent in pictures of themselves as well. the talented fern carpenter filmed and edited the video for us and we all loved the result!

"come one, come all, to the greatest sorority of them all!" after the new members opened their bid cards and they, along with the gamma chi's, ran to our open arms, a night full of circus-themed celebration ensued at the alpha chi omega house. bid night was circus-themed this ear, complete with a big-top tent ceiling in the chapter room and food ranging from mini corn-dogs, sliders and cotton candy to cookies and cupcakes! the smiles never left the chapter members', alumni's and new members' faces.

recruitment is one of the most important and memorable times for alpha chi. i feel that every year, i learn more about my chapter, the girls and what we can really accomplish. every year i come away from recruitment loving alpha chi omega even more. senior chapter member betsy scruggs summed up 2014 recruitment best when she said:

"recruitment is the best time of the year. you see what its really like to work with your sisters to get the best girls on campus and that's exactly what we did this year. we got the best pledge class on this campus and i couldn't be more excited to meet every one of the beautiful girls."
